Round trip distance: 4 miles
Difficulty Level: Moderate
We took the trailhead across the road and up about a block from Silverfork Lodge. It was titled, "Willowheights Trail Head." This was a steep rocky trail that headed pretty much straight uphill. It was supposed to be less than a mile from our starting point, but seemed much longer getting there.
About 3/4 of the way up we ran into a beautiful Aspen grove. Truly a great place! On up the trail we came to the meadow right before the lake. The views looking back at Solitude are spectacular from here.
At the lake, we hiked around. Cleared path goes to the backside of lake, but then becomes very overgrown and almost non-existent for the rest of the hike around. A bonus was finding a hand lashed raft on the backside of the lake that our daughter had a blast playing on (and she forgot how hard the hike up had been).
On the way back down, we came down a forest service road that was the trail on the right side of the paths going downhill. It was much more navigable, but put us a ways downhill and we had to hike back up to Solitude.
